The Gender Program at CORDS promotes gender equality and empowers pastoralist women and girls by addressing barriers to leadership, economic participation, and equal rights. Through community-based initiatives and collaboration with local leaders, the program strengthens women's capacity to participate in decision-making and drive sustainable community development.
The department promotes women’s economic empowerment by supporting livelihood diversification, income-generating activities, VICOBA groups, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. These initiatives help women build sustainable businesses, increase household income, and strengthen economic resilience.
The department promotes women’s rights through gender equality training, legal literacy, community awareness, and positive social norms. These initiatives strengthen women’s leadership, increase participation in decision-making, and empower Women Champions to advocate for equality and lasting social change.
The department strengthens women’s land rights through awareness, training, and advocacy for equitable access to land and natural resources. These initiatives promote women’s participation in land governance, strengthen decision-making, and support inclusive management of community resources.
The department strengthens women’s leadership through training, mentorship, peer learning, and Women Champions initiatives. These efforts build confidence, enhance participation in governance and advocacy, and empower women to lead sustainable community development.
The department promotes women’s health, protection, and wellbeing through awareness on HIV/AIDS prevention, women’s health rights, and community engagement to address harmful practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). These initiatives help improve women’s health, strengthen protection mechanisms, and promote dignity and wellbeing for women and girls.
The department promotes gender-responsive climate resilience through climate adaptation, drought cycle management, water conservation, early warning systems, climate-smart livelihoods, and sustainable natural resource management.
