A free and vibrant pastoralist society that has a strong voice and a wide range of choices over its own development and destiny.
To work for holistic socio-economic development and to fight against all threats to livelihood security (marginalization, injustice, oppression, gender inequality, poverty, hunger, ignorance and diseases).
Community Research and Development Services (CORDS) is a Non-Governmental Organization established in 1998 following a research initiative conducted in 1997 to address development challenges facing pastoralist communities in Northern Tanzania. The organization was founded to translate research evidence into sustainable, community-driven development action.
CORDS works to strengthen land tenure security and governance of pastoralist resources while promoting gender equality, social inclusion, and women’s empowerment. Its programs also focus on education, public health, climate change adaptation, and improving livelihood security among pastoral and hunter-gatherer communities.
CORDS delivers its mission through strong partnerships with communities, government institutions, and development actors. By strengthening its organizational capacity, CORDS ensures effective research, planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting for sustainable development impact.
