About Us

Community Research and Development Services (CORDS) is a Non-Governmental Organization established in 1998 following a research initiative conducted in 1997 to address development challenges facing pastoralist communities in Northern Tanzania. The organization was founded to translate research evidence into sustainable, community-driven development action.

CORDS works to strengthen land tenure security and governance of pastoralist resources while promoting gender equality, social inclusion, and women’s empowerment. Its programs also focus on education, public health, climate change adaptation, and improving livelihood security among pastoral and hunter-gatherer communities.

CORDS delivers its mission through strong partnerships with communities, government institutions, and development actors. By strengthening its organizational capacity, CORDS ensures effective research, planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting for sustainable development impact.

Our Core Values

  1. Community cantered: CORDS (Staff, Management, Board of Directors and the Members)
    shall present itself as an ambassador by expressing views and actions in favor of
    supporting wellbeing of pastoral and Hunter-Gatherers’ communities.
  2. Transparency and Accountability: CORDS shall exercise openness, accuracy, and promptness in sharing relevant information with relevant stakeholders. It shall in all-weather exercise diligence to all assigned duties while ensuring optimum use of resources and be accountable for their actions.
  3. Professionalism: CORDS shall portray a high level of morality, impartiality, integrity, respect, courtesy, timeliness, effectiveness, and efficiency when performing their duties in the name of CORDS.
